Life is an adventure!!

I have always said that to my kids! Yep it's an adventure and we are about to take one. Mr. Polka Dot announced this week at work that he will be retiring in October. So now a new adventure will begin for us, a new chapter. Grand baby boy will be here by then, so it will be a happy adventure with a new little one around. Now this retirement thing is a bit weird to me. I don't really know why but it is. We have planned well and lots of projects and trips to look forward to. I guess for me being mid 50ish, I just don't feel like retirement material :-), no pun intended!!!!! But after sitting on this for this week (even though we knew for about a year), it's starting to feel like it will be ok; better than ok...in fact pretty darn wonderful!!!

On the sewing front, let's just say haste makes waste. I have been working on my Prairie Paisley quilt fast & feverishly. Nine patches done, light rails done, dark rails done! Screeeeeech - nine patches not done right. A little ripping, well - a lot of ripping and now I am back on track. I think the retirement thing has preoccupied my thinking for a good month now. Next step will be the star points, so I have my fingers crossed that all goes well.
Today I was moving some quilts around and brought out this quilt. It's Granny's Bloomers that I made at a quilt retreat in Las Vegas a few years ago with my friend Lani. It was so much fun to make. This cute little Dick and Jane quilt that I have almost given away a bunch of times, now I am glad I held on to it.

A friend gave me this cute little pattern to make burp pads, so I just had to whip up some today.
My son is busy priming the baby's room and getting ready to paint. He and his dad put the ceiling fan up today. Only four more months - we can't wait!!!
This time of year is so nice. The flowers are all starting to bloom and put on their pretty show.....
...an orchid that belonged to my mom ..... Bring on the flowers and life's adventures! Hope this finds you all well and with some life's adventures of your own! See you later alligators.

everything will be fine.....you just need to get some interests happening for him if he doesn't have many now so he is not sitting around doing nothing getting under your feet.......actually maybe you could get him binding for you......

Wow retirement. Scares me actually. I'm 50 and my husband is 50. I know eventually it will happen but for some reason it freaks me out. Maybe I just hate change? Anyway your pics are all darling.

I am new to your blog, but just wanted to wish you the best. I think I will be walking in your shoes soon, and at mid50 I can relate to "Me Retired'???? Thought that meant we were old (G)!!!! I told my husband he had to get a hobby first and darn him, he did. And an expensive one to boot ( photography) but then I guess I can just say "hmmmm......you got a camera, so guess I need to get more quilting stuff". Anyway, blessings and happiness in the next phase of your life. XXXAnnie from San Diego

Congratulations on all the wonderful things happening in your life. My parents retired very young, in their 50's and they have been having the time of their lives ever since,. In fact, us kids can never find them because they are always off having fun in some gorgeous vacation spot.

Love your beautiful quilt and flow pictures! :-)

Congrats on the retirement decision! My DH would like to, but probably won't for at least 5 years :( In the meantime we travel on the Harley and try to do other fun things. At least your hubby will have more time to spoil his new grandson!
I saw the Prairie Paisley quilt made up at my LQS today. Wonderful! Good luck with all the little 9-patches! I did buy a little yardage for a table runner. A "someday" project!

Retirement is an adjustment. My in-laws have never been so busy until they retired. Same with my mom, she has an agenda now and I have to check in to see if she can fit me in! lol Cheers to the new adventure!

Hubby's retirement is at the perfect time in your lives, especially with the grandbaby almost here! You are absolutely right - life IS an adventure, and a grand one at that! Congratulations to both of you!
I am loving the Prairie Paisley fabric and the pattern you've chosen - it's going to be stunning!
I have made 2 tablerunners from the Granny's Bloomers pattern - it's so sweet, isn't it? Your quilts are very pretty! I'm glad you kept them, too.
I am going to plant some flowers today, since at the moment, the sun is shining here! Spring has sprung!
