A whole lot of shakin going on!

Good morning blogging peoples!! Just a little reminder of living in California. A 4.0 earthquake this morning at 4:15 a.m. about 35 miles from here. It sounded a little bit like a train passing through :-)! Think I will be a little slow today, since getting back to sleep wasn't easy!

Promised I would post the Tortilla Soup recipe...don't be put off by the long list of ingredients ..it is WONDERFUL!!!

Tortilla Soup
2 - 49 ounce cans chicken broth
3 frozen chicken breast halves-(cook alone in water for 20 minutes and
chop in small bite size pieces)
3/4 cups uncooked long grain rice
1/2 large yellow onion chopped fine
1 small red bell pepper diced
14 ounce diced tomatoes
8 ounce whole kernel corn
1/2 bunch cilantro, chopped
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
1 clove garlic minced
Tortilla chips
cheddar cheese grated
green onions chopped
2 tablespoons peppercorns and about 3 to 4 tablespoons celery leaves

In a LARGE pot put both cans of chicken broth, uncooked rice, onion and red
bell pepper. Put 2 tablespoons peppercorn and celery leaves in a tea ball and put in the broth. You can also tie it up in some cheese cloth if you don't have a tea ball. Cook for 25 minutes. Add tomatoes, chicken that has been cooked, corn all herbs, and 1/2 of the cilantro that you chopped. Simmer again for approximately 20 minutes. Add rest of the cilantro and cook another 5 minutes. Best served in a mug. Crumble a handful of tortilla chips in bottom of mug, sprinkle cheese on top (we like a lot of cheese :-) ), put some chopped green onions on top of the cheese than ladle hot soup on top. YUMMMMMMY!

Look what I found!! I was at Target yesterday finishing up some stocking stuffer shopping and look what ended up in my cart! Just couldn't resist....and 50% off, what a deal! I love TARGET :-)! ........and then a buddy of mine, knowing how much I love stars brought me these ! Love them!! Hope every ones week is going well, and all your Christmas plans are coming together. Later gators!

I'm not a fan of earthquakes - they sure do wake you up in a hurry, don't they?
Love the boots and the stars - so cute!! Ho ho ho!!!!!

We have a train not too far from our house. It's a good thing we don't get earthquakes - I might mistake it for a train!
The tortilla soup sounds wonderful.

That recipe sounds so yummy! I love Tortilla Soup so I'm gonna try it very soon. Here's a little tip - slice up some corn tortillas and fry them till crispy. Add those crisps and a slice of avacado to the top the soup - double YUM. :-)

Stars and boots are darling!

Apparently, we slept through the earthquake. It must have been much closer to you.

Cheryl, thanks for the heads up, Tortillia soup is my favorite, I will be printing this out for sure! Love those little boots! Try not to shake it too much down there, you might disturb the middle of the state ;-)

Glad to hear that that earthquake wasn't worse! My daughters went to college, then lived for a few years in Southern Calinfornia. A few times they called home a bit shaken up!
The recipe sounds wounderful--I'm definatly going to try it! Thank you for taking the time to post it!

I also love Target--(It's an hours drive for us, oh how I wish it were closer!) I loved so many of the ornaments when I was there Christmas shopping. Hope to grab a few on Christmas Eve when visiting my daughter in the big city.
Thank you so much for stopping by the cabin and have a very Merry Christmas!

At first I thought it was Emma jumping on the bed. Then I realized it was an earthquake. Good thing I wasn't the only one who felt it. For a second there, I thought I was just paranoid.

Geez, that's a long list of ingredients. Can't you just make it for me? I promise to post a comment on your blog everyday. Really, I mean it. Can you also make me your wonderful ball of cheeze? My pseudo in-laws will definitely love it! I know I do. Ok, can I have these by tomorrow?

YIKES !! I still have vivid memories of that California shakin from my 6 year stint in the Pasadena area -- took me quite a few years after being back in Pa to realize that the shaking feeling on our local bridge was because a big truck was going over it and NOT because it was an earthquake! (either way, I think they should check that bridge!)

Anyhow, the soup sounds great! thanks for sharing the recipe!

That soup sounds yummy! I have a similar recipe that hubby can't get enough of. I've never really experienced an earthquake. We had an extremely mild one here in CT a few years ago. At first I thought it was some kind of wild animal on the roof LOL! A very Merry Christmas to you and your family and thank you for the very nice comment!
