Happy For Our Zombie!!!

Have you heard about Monica….The Happy Zombie???!! She has her very own line of fabric coming out for Lecien called Holiday Happy. It is so stinkin’ cute and so Monica!!! I have been a stalker, I mean follower of hers since I started blogging and her sense of color and creativeness is truly wonderful and so much fun. Here’s a peek……….. and more info here!!! This yummy fabric is making it’s debut at Spring Market 2010…so very soon. We are all so proud of you Monica!!!

I am rolling along with my March goals….. bindings on my two mini’s, one runner, and block 9 of the Fat Quarter Shop BOM……………….. and I am very, very, very, happy to report the last 8 rows on my Eye Spy quilt are pieced

and ready to be added to the others! I am so excited to see the end of this in sight!

We are still pretty cool here for this time of year, but there are glimpses of Spring popping out .

A Bit About Vacation …And Bragging About My Friend

My blog is a bit possessed tonight.  I have tried and tried to get my pictures on. Get them on start writing and, poof they vanish…so we shall see how this goes!

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

 

Morro Bay was amazing.   A bit stormy, but that only made for beautiful photos.  Here was an otter floating on his back in the bay across from where we camped.  Life is good in otter world.  We have camped in this campground for 32 years with friends.  We were all so  young way back….now we are talking about grandkids and health care!!!

Now on to bragging about my friend…(this is a distraction since I have no quilting to share! ) My friend Jan made this wonderful Hunter ‘s  Star quilt.  Years back I made one that was paper pieced, but this one is made with a new Hunter’s  Star Ruler…and then this beauty..I was so in awe

of this quilt, I totally missed the explanation of the pattern.   I love, love, love this  quilt below.  She was one busy quilter!    Hold on to your hats…here’s a picture of what I worked on………….

bibs for Little Polka Dot!!!!  He has a heard of teeth coming in and is a drooling machine, so now he has three new minky backed bibs  I just need to hammer on the snap closures.  His little brother is doing so well.  We had them here yesterday while mom and dad hosted a party at their house.  Papa and I were having our own party!    That’s a wrap for me, fingers crossed that I get some sewing done this week!  Happy week everyone.

Charming Quilt Club March Goals

March already......geeeeeeeeeeeeez!! We are just back from 6 days at Morro Bay (soooo much fun), and some time with grandbaby dots and a day with my girl in San Diego. I figured I better post my goals before April gets here.

First things first....Charming Quilt Club February goals kinda met!!!! The borders are on my Quick Trip quilt and I am caught up on the Fat Quarter Shop BOM's (thru February anyway)....which brings me to the Eye Spy Quilt----as you can see it is right where I left it after the Friday Night Sew-In!!!

That brings me to my March Charming Quilt Club goals-----FINISH THE EYE SPY QUILT!! The next Friday Night Sew-In is March 19th so that will be my sew-in project. This is such a great time to set aside to sew with some of your fellow bloggers. Thanks to Heidi and Bobbie for getting us all coordinated. So that will be one night of work.........

next I plan to finish the March BOM from The Fat Quarter Shop, a mini topper, bindings on my two Swell runners and two small mini's. Tammy, Sharon and myself are all working on a quilt called Between Friends, designed by Darlene at Quilting Daze. Tammy and I are actually going to use some of our precious Swell fabric that we have been hoarding for a few years. My goal on this is to just get the 16 patches done. I am keeping my fingers crossed on the Eye Spy Quilt. That one has been hanging over my head for a long time!!! Thanks to Kelly for making the Charming Quilt Club so much fun.

Friday Night Sew –in With 194 Friends!

Just a little sew-in with 194 bloggy friends! Thanks to Heidi for this very fun idea. I have been putting off and putting off working on my Eye Spy quilt, so that’s what I decided to work on…….

This is where I started at early Friday night…Coke at the ready, the Olympics on, ready set go!!! In my head I would have the whole top done, but this quilt about drove me to eat CHOCOLATE! All those matching points are quite the challenge and my piecing is not perfect, but perfect enough for my little granddots. Thanks Heidi for the nudge and organizing our Friday Night Sew-in! Looking forward to the March sewing night.

I had a great visit with my girl and her guy…a very yummy Mexican dinner in Old Town San Diego. Along the way I just had to visit some quilt shops….The Quilters Coop in Temecula (one of my favorites), Fat Quarters in Vista, Rosie’s

in San Diego and The Country Loft in La Mesa. So many wonderful things to drool over!

The next day there was a fun visit to The San Diego Zoo and seeing all the creatures big and small …babies holding on tight to their mamas, and these tall guys that I could watch all day.

What a fun few days….but now I hear the laundry calling. Wishing you all a very happy weekend.

Snuggles!

The week has been filled with lots of snuggles with the littlest dot.  His big brother had a really nasty bug, and there were trips to Urgent Care and  lots of worries, but his mommy and daddy took really great care of him and he is back to feeling good as new.  No fun for any of us ,and such a relief that he is better.  Baby Dot spent most of the time sleeping!

I managed to get the borders on my Quick Trip  Quilt, with a bit of a change.  My original idea was double staggered borders all around, but it was too busy, so I settled for just one row of blocks.                                      The binding is machine sewn on my 9 patch quilt,  so all that’s left is the hand work…to be done while watching the Olympics!

BUT………tomorrow is a road trip to visit my girl with some sightseeing along the way….admission here---that means visiting quilt shops along the way!!!!  Dinner with her and her boyfriend tomorrow night and then off to the zoo on Friday.    Don’t think I have forgotten about

Friday Night Sew-in!!!  I’m back by early evening and I’ll be  working on the Eye Spy Quilt, the last project on my list of goals for the Charming Quilt Club .

Off I go to pack!   Happy

Comments and emails encouraging me along with my goals for the month, so very nice, kind and supportive and I am happy to say I finished the 3 Fat Quarter Shop BOM’s!! YIPEE! Tonight I am tackling the 3 remaining borders on my Quick Trip Quilt. Thanks girls!!!! You are all so amazing! And people wonder why we hang out on the blogs??!!!

Then there was some bindings to do ……..my friend Jan is such a prolific quilter!!!

Tomorrow……well, housework calls. Mr Polka Dot is finishing up a new floor in the upstairs bathroom..LOVE IT, so guess I better be productive on the home front! Wishing you all a great weekend and a very happy Valentines Day!

My Charming February Projects I Want To Finish!

Set and ready to go for February. Here is what I plan to tackle.

Finish putting the borders on my Quick Trip quilt….one side done and three more to go—easy I’m thinking.

Next, I am behind on my Fat Quarter Shop BOM’s…so I am going to finish blocks for 3 months …….

again, easy so let’s geter done.

Lastly..this is the embarassing one. Finish piecing the top of my Eye Spy quilt. I have had this on my blog to finish numerous times, but I’ll give it a go once again!

I am calling February “no excuse February”, which means getting these babies done!! Happy week everyone!

A Very Important Announcement!!!!!

Ms. Quilt Times and I have decided to proclaim this a "no housework week"...which means lots of quilting and hanging out with quilty friends. So go forth, be creative and have a great week everyone!! PS.....pass it on!


And another thing........Heidi is hosting a Friday Night Sew In...a time to set aside for you to work on a project, and it doesn't have to be quilting. This month the night is Friday, February 19th. A Little Of This And That!

I have a collection of Swell fabric by Moda that has been aging in my quilt closet….I would say about 3 years of aging….the plan then was to redo my laundry room incorporating the fabric. The time has come!! I made two of these runners to go on top of the washer and dryer..some buttonholing left to do on the flowers and leaves. Next step curtains, a valance for a shelf, and some kind of runner for the top of the cupboard. I just love it when a plan comes together!!

We had a two day getaway to San Luis Obispo to attend a retirement party for a close friend and his wife. Such a fun event, connecting with old friends and welcoming another couple in to our growing group of retirees….YIPEEE……this means more people to play with. The car ride there and back was just enough time for me to get the binding on my girls quilt…my January finish!! I have a visit planned in a couple weeks, so I will be delivering it to her in person.

Tonight the Grammy’s are are on (I’m watching as I type in fact). I love, love the Grammy’s . In my head I am quite the singer…if only you could hear. But unfortunately in real life the sound is not so good…too bad :-)!!! While watching I finished putting this little topper together. The blocks were done, so it was just a matter of adding the sashings and corner squares…easy!

I tried a new recipe tonight for pulled pork……so EASY and quite tasty. You put a 3lb. pork loin roast (seasoned) in the crock pot with 14 ounces of beef broth and cook for about 8 hours on low. Take meat out and shred, put in a cast iron skillet and mix with 18 ounces of your favorite barbeque sauce (this is to taste you might want to add a bit more). Bake in oven at 350 for 30 minutes. I served it on onion buns, with cole slaw….YUMMO!

This is a week full of quilty get togethers….breakfast tomorrow morning with my friends, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings friendship group get togethers and Saturday a soup and sew day….I’m thinking housework will have to wait this week because I’m going to be PLAYING!!!!! Happy week everyone!

Lots Of Sweetness

Hello baby brother…are you ready to play. We have the coolest car room that mama and dada made for us and so many fun toys….hello are you listening.!!! Little Polka Dot was so glad to see his mommy..he missed her so much, now life is the way it is suppose to be.Meeting Aunt KK for the first time…..love at first sight! How did my two babies grow up so fast, and now my son has two of his own…amazing!!!!!! There has been lots of holding and visiting this week and I am getting all the holding in that I can because I know the holding part doesn’t last very long.

There was a bit of time to squeeze in working on a mini..yummy! And then three quilts of my own back from the AMAZING quilters and ready for the binding to be put on.

A sweet comment left by Corrie on my last post led me to her blog Quilt Taffy…which along with her sister Des they have so many wonderful things to share and then to their FANTASTIC EBay store Quilt Taffy that is brimming with kits, patterns, jelly rolls, charm packs, fabrics and on and on and on which then led to this arriving in my mailbox licikity splicity….great customer service ladies!

I am pleased to introduce you to Boogie who is one lucky pup living with my friend Beth and her husband. Even luckier because he gets to go to school with her and hang out with her students. Sleeping on backpacks is one of his favorite spots . Are you looking at me?? Woozers those are some blue eyes..sorry Boogie I couldn’t get that blue out!

Our Hearts Are Full

Early this morning (4:05 to be exact) we got the call that it was time. I threw on some clothes and rushed over to stay with Little Polka Dot. So exciting and nervous all rolled up together, but with my DIL’s mom keeping me informed it was just a matter of waiting! Well at 8:30 a.m. our sweet baby Caleb Joshua was born. Baby, mom, and dad are all doing fine! Here he is sleeping so sweetly on his mama. Those chubby little baby cheeks, so sweet and we hear there is a possible sighting of TWO dimples. He just had to outdo his big brother. He chowed down right away…so he definitely is one of us!!

Papa, Little Polka Dot and myself had to go have a look see in person, but not before we took care of some very important business. You probably have heard we are having some wild weather here in California, and our wild weather turned to snow early this morning. So Papa and Little Polka Dot had some fun in the snow. So sweet, when he saw the snow out the window he said oooooooooooooooo! He was so excited and had his rain boots on .

Off to the hospital we went. Little Polka Dot had to stay in the waiting area with his other grandma…….no little visitors anymore because of the Swine Flu. There was our sweet family, I was just overcome with emotion and we are so grateful that all went well. Mom and dad were just beaming and little Caleb was sleeping so snug on his mom. His mama looked beautiful and hard to believe she just had a baby! The nurse came to bathe him, and wouldn’t you know it, but it was a quilting friend. She was so gentle with him, answering all our questions, and of course getting a bit of quilt talk in!!!

Life is good………..and you know more pictures to follow!!!

My Churn Dash top is done……CHECK..ok, so it’s only 16 X 20, but it’s done and so cute. My piecing abilities are a bit in question, but nothing that a little practice can’t correct!! I just love it and now I think I’m on to something…SMALL QUILTS….. I can actually get them done.

Two of my next options……both small so why not do both!

Here’s a real finish..pieced by a friend, quilted by a friend and I put the binding on. Perfect on my table and chocked full of friendship!!

We are still on baby watch or waiting I should say. Little Polka Dot is coming for a play day tomorrow and we can’t wait. Wednesday we have a visit with our girl and some sight seeing in her neck of the woods, then Thursday and Friday a visit from some long time quilty friends.

Feels so good to be back to getting something accomplished…now to keep the ball rolling. Happy week everyone!
